The Parks & Recreation Department received a $10,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) program. The grant consists of removing 16 trees along Russell Ave. that are in decline due to the MSD construction project that was completed in 2019 and planting 30 new trees along the south side of Russell Ave.
The planting plan will emphasize native trees endemic to flood plains and riparian areas including Baldcypress, River Birch, American Hornbeam, Redbud and Osage Orange. Staff believes the end result of this project will be a greatly enhanced parking area for Brentwood Park, with reduced sun exposure and heat, and improved air quality. The aesthetic characteristics of the park will be greatly improved resulting in heightened awareness of how quality tree planting can be a community benefit.
